Four generations, one family office.
Donald Bruce Kaufman founded the Kaufman Family Office, building a foundation in real estate development and community building that would carry across four generations of his family.
A year later, Donald co-founded Kaufman & Broad with Eli Broad, which grew into one of the first publicly traded homebuilders on the New York Stock Exchange and later became KB Home. Kaufman & Broad grew as its own company, separate from the family office, but it carried the same conviction that housing could be built at scale without losing sight of the people who would live in it.
Donald led the Kaufman Family Office until his death in a plane crash on January 4, 1983.
Following his death, his four sons carried the family office forward together for close to four decades.
The family office was turned over to Daniel Kaufman, continuing the family's direct involvement in its stewardship.
The collection of Kaufman family office companies was merged into Kaufman & Company, now led by Daniel Kaufman and the board of directors of Kaufman family members.
Led by the fourth generation, guided by the family.
Daniel Kaufman leads the Kaufman Family Office today, alongside a board of directors made up of Kaufman family members. Together they oversee the family's holdings and set the direction for Kaufman & Company, the operating platform the family office's companies were merged into in 2026.
